A Vrat Thali is a wholesome platter that brings together different fasting friendly dishes in a single complete meal. Fasting is not only about avoiding food but it is a spiritual practice that helps us discipline ourselves and attain more balance in our lifestyle. During festivals like Navratri, Janmashtami, Ekadashi, Shivratri, special satvik food(without onion and garlic) is prepared by devotees which is light and easy to digest.
In this post I am sharing a Vrat thali idea which i recently made on the occasion of Janmashtami made with ingredients allowed in fasting and customized as per the taste and preferences of your family.
- Sabudana Khichdi- Light and filling khichdi made with sago pearls and peanuts.
- Kuttu Pakori- Crunchy fritters made with Kuttu( buckwheat flour)
- Aloo Sabzi- Spiced potatoes with ginger and green chillies for that extra taste.
- Curd- Cooling and soothing, adding curd to the thali is a good option to balance the khichdi and pakoras.
- Coriander Chutney- Simple chutney by adding salt, black pepper and curd to it for that tangy twist to your thali.
🍀Tips/Suggestions while preparing this Thali
- Use Ghee for the preparation of food. it gives better flavor to the food and is good for digestion as well.
- Use Rock Salt, popularly known as Sendha Namak instead of regular salt.
- Avoid using onion and garlic. Green chilies and Dry ginger powder(sonth powder) can be used for adding flavor to the food.
- Including curd to your food gives a cooling effect to our stomach and aids digestion.
- You can replace potatoes with arbi or sweet potatoes.
This is my simple homemade vrat thali. You can mix-match and experiment with your favorite dishes to make your own version. Do let me know in the comments if you want detailed recipes for the dishes.
